The main components of most low to mid price range wood cabinetry today are made with hardwood plywood, MDF, or particleboard. Manufacturing those components typically involves formaldehyde-laden resins. Though the formaldehyde levels of those composite products have come down dramatically over the past 10 years, it still maybe of concern for some homeowners. There are alternative wood materials available. Low-VOC finishes are becoming more readily available, though there are concerns about their quality and richness.
